Care of your upholstered care furniture

How can I best maintain my upholstered care furniture?

Fabrics specially developed for the healthcare sector are distinguished by their practical properties and high quality. These fabrics are durable, hygienic, and easy to clean, making them ideal for intensive use in healthcare environments. Thanks to their dirt- and moisture-repellent finish, they are stain-resistant and easy to wipe clean with a cloth. Furthermore, despite their practical properties, they retain a comfortable and stylish appearance that contributes to a pleasant environment for clients and healthcare providers.

Before use: proper preparation

What can I use to treat my upholstered care furniture?

New healthcare furniture is clean, but not always optimally protected. By treating it properly in advance, you can prevent many problems in the future and keep your healthcare furniture looking like new for as long as possible.

Step-by-step plan for initial treatment

  1. Vacuuming
Before treating the fabric, it is important to remove any crumbs by vacuuming the entire piece of furniture first. This will also prevent the fabric from absorbing the protective coating that is applied in the next step.
  2. Impregnating
It is advisable to protect the fabric with a special fabric protector. This protective layer ensures that liquids are less likely to soak into the fibres and that dirt is easier to remove. Spray the protector evenly over the fabric, at a distance of approximately 20–30 cm. Treat all surfaces, including seams and corners.
  3. Drying and curing
Allow the furniture to dry for at least 12 hours, and do not use it during this period.

During use: daily maintenance and stain treatment

In healthcare, upholstered furniture is exposed to frequent spills, crumbs, and wear and tear. With a few regular routines, you can keep it fresh and well-maintained.

Step-by-step maintenance plan in use

  1. Vacuum weekly: Use a soft upholstery brush to remove crumbs, dust, and dirt. Don’t forget the seams, crevices and under the cushions.
  2. Remove stains daily: Dab, don’t rub: immediately absorb liquid stains (coffee, wine, soft drinks) with a clean, dry cloth. Rubbing will make the stain bigger. Cleaning stains: use lukewarm water with a little neutral soap or a fabric cleaner. Apply this with a slightly damp cloth and work from the outside in. Drying: dab with a dry cloth and allow the furniture to dry naturally.
  3. Prevent damage: Do not place sharp objects on the fabric. Do not leave chairs in direct sunlight for long periods of time to limit discolouration.

Large maintenance and deep cleaning - After intensive use

How can I make my care fabrics look like new again?

After a busy season or intensive use, the fabric may look a little dull or stained. In that case, a thorough cleaning is required.

Step-by-step plan for large maintenance

  1. Deep cleaning: Use a professional fabric cleaner or have this done by a specialist. A water extraction system removes dirt and residues deep from the fibres.
  2. Aftercare: Allow the furniture to dry completely (usually 12–24 hours) before using it again. Treat the fabric again with a fabric protector to prevent future stains.
  3. Check filling and seams: Check that cushions retain their shape and seams are intact. If not, have this repaired in good time to prevent further damage.

How can I enjoy my upholstered care furniture for as long as possible?

Regular maintenance is essential to keep your healthcare furniture in optimal condition for a long time. Avoid aggressive cleaning agents, as these can damage the protective layer and the fibres of the fabric. Use a professional fabric cleaner and clean the fabric weekly with a soft, slightly damp cloth to remove surface dirt. Preferably, do not place the furniture in direct sunlight to prevent discolouration. By periodically applying a protective layer with fabric protector and treating small stains immediately, the fabric will retain its fresh appearance and your healthcare furniture will remain as good as new for as long as possible.
