Start of a special interior design company.

When Kaja started in 1963, cafés were drawn on the back of a beer mat.
Nowadays, a complete 3D design including lighting plan, technical drawing and moodboard is given to the customer.

In 1963 a special interior company started in Rijssen. Kaja Horeca Interiors. Old interiors of monasteries, churches and other buildings were bought up. Kaja’s design team went to work to reuse all these stained glass panels, church pews and old panelling for a beautiful old pub. Jugendstil lamps, café lamps and large chandeliers were not missing either. These interiors went throughout the Netherlands, Germany, Russia, Spain and even Japan. The Kaja customer could eventually choose between 1 colour: pub brown.

Showroom Rijssen

In the past you did not come to the showroom in Rijssen but you visited the “Kaja Toonzaal”. A showroom filled with unique decorations, antique items, green café lighting, lots of atmosphere and of course the “krentenwegge” with butter that every customer had to eat during a visit to Rijssen. A real Twents custom.

Because of the atmosphere, quality, flexibility, creativity, award and of course the “krentenwegge”, the customer did not leave without signing the order.

It were great times, according to former Kaja employees. We have experienced a lot of special years and decorated many brown pubs. Kaja was an interior designer with its own identity. Of course there were parties who also wanted to go in this direction, but unfortunately. Kaja Interiors is the founder of the brown pub.

Now we call it a Collection Book but in the past it was called a supplement.

Succes tijdens Horecava Amsterdam

Unfortunately no Horecava this month…

…but entrepreneurs of the time still have beautiful stories to tell about Kaja’s stand. The atmosphere of the company had to be set out in 4 days in the 2nd week of January. Usually many m2 were rented in order to show what we stood for. Once, for example, a complete station was built with a bar and back cabinet in the shape of a train. Throughout the entire stand, tracks were laid at a height of 3 metres, on which an old locomotive with wagons travelled all day. Also during the Horecava week the stand was filled with not only viewers but also with buyers!

Kaja anno 2021:
Kaja | furniture design realisation

In Rijssen you can strongly feel the DNA of 1963.

Studiosenses Amsterdam

We make a jump of almost 60 years. Together with partner Van Gestel Grootkeukentechniek, Kaja currently has 3 beautiful inspiration centres: Studio Senses Zwolle, Den-Haag Delft and Breda. Interior examples, furniture collections, kitchen equipment you can find it all in Studio Senses. Of course we also still have our showroom in Rijssen. New customers who enter here are surprised how ‘long’ this showroom is, almost 100 meters long! With many small furnished rooms the customer still has enough inspiration here. This way we always ask our customers from all over the country, Germany and the rest of Europe to pay Kaja a visit in Rijssen. Just to sniff our 1963 DNA. The experience of a visit to Studio Senses and Kaja in Rijssen surprises everyone. Nice to see that we succeed in what we want to be.

Kaja is now available to all companies & institutions that have hospitality high on their agenda and are willing to invest in a suitable interior to optimally facilitate or stimulate the well-being or experience of their guests. Our focus sectors are:

Hospitality, Care, Recreation, Sports & Leisure and Offices or collective buildings.

Kaja’s management team is already talking about further expansion in 2021. Soon we will also open a 1500m2 Studio Senses in Amsterdam. On a perfect location next to HANOS Amsterdam. At a busy location in the heart of North Holland, we will facilitate the hospitality branch with everything Kaja Meubilair, ontwerp & realisatie has to offer.

We see people as guests…

Kaja sees people as guests. Everywhere. Customers, employees, visitors, residents, patients or clients. We are guests in an environment. Sometimes for a short visit, sometimes to meet again after a long time, sometimes to relax together, sometimes for a long stay. It is the total memory of such a visit or stay that remains. The interior, the furnishings or the furniture in the environment play an essential role in the well-being and experience of each guest. We are convinced of this. In the hospitality branch, people are the focus and experience what hospitality is.

De opgebouwde kennis & ervaring uit het verleden telt en vormt het fundament voor toekomstige interieurvraagstukken. Kaja blinkt uit in haar veelzijdigheid en klantwaarde voor de hospitality branche. Dit doen we door:

  • Top collection quality furniture for indoors and outdoors of various brands.
  • Restyling of existing interiors whether in a restaurant or a nursing home.
  • Designing customised hospitality interiors.
  • Realisation of complete interior projects.
  • Own service, assembly & m

From introduction to 3D visualisation

This year, we are taking our design further with 3D visualisations. As involved “interior directors”, Kaja’s team prefers to use a full service approach in order to fully relieve our care customers. This approach consists of the following steps:

Step 1 Intake interview
Step 2 Design phase
Step 3 Agreement design & offer
Step 4 Preparatory phase
Step 5 Realisation
